If you need to print, talk to Fanelli Boys, Inc. we offer smart. office. solutions to your printing needs. The idea behind starting Fanelli Boys, Inc. back in 1990 was to save businesses money when they print. Fanelli Boys is now one of the largest toner cartridge and inkjet remanufactures in the state of West Virginia. Although we also sell new name brand cartridges, we specialize in remanufactured toner cartridges.
One of the major recurring costs involved in owning a laser printer is the cost of toner cartridges. New toner cartridges are bulky, heavy, expensive pieces of equipment, and to treat them as disposable does not make sense, environmentally or economically. Luckily, they do not have to be disposed of after use, as they can easily be remanufactured. Buying a brand new toner cartridge every time the old one runs out is wasteful in every sense of the word. Instead, remanufactured toner cartridges are a good deal for the planet and for the pocketbook.

Remanufactured Toner Cartridges
A remanufactured toner cartridge is a used toner cartridge that has been cleaned, inspected, repaired, tested, and refilled. Any printer or other piece of office equipment that uses a toner cartridge, rather than having toner added to the machine itself, can use a remanufactured cartridge. Remanufactured cartridges can provide great benefits over new, used, and new "compatible" cartridges. A few details about the remanufacturing process can assuage any doubts about the wisdom of buying a remanufactured toner cartridge.
The Remanufacturing Process
When a used toner cartridge is returned to the manufacturer or remanufacturing company, it is first disassembled and all the parts are individually inspected. These parts include the drum, corona wire assembly, wiper blade, and roller. Any parts that are worn or damaged are replaced with new ones, and the cartridge is cleaned, refilled with toner, and reassembled. This process can be repeated several times for the same cartridge, making several generations of remanufacturing possible. Economic Savings
The most obvious and tangible benefit of remanufactured toner cartridges is that they save money. On a per copy basis, remanufactured toner cartridges cost 30% to 60% less than new toner cartridges. Some cartridge remanufacturers will even pay for used toner cartridges, or at least accept them free of charge or provide a credit for future purchases, adding another savings to participating in the remanufacturing process.
Remanufactured Cartridges Benefit the Environment
A toner cartridge consists of about three pounds material: 40% plastic, 40% metal, and smaller amounts of paper, rubber, foam, and toner. Simply chucking this cartridge into a landfill is a senseless waste, as the plastic components will take at least 1,000 years to decompose. This waste is avoidable, however, as 97% of these components can be recycled or reused. Using remanufactured toner cartridges keeps these materials out of the landfill, and conserves natural resources by eliminating the need to extract materials to make new toner cartridges. Each pound of toner cartridge that is remanufactured means that five to nine pounds of raw materials need not be extracted from the Earth. Petroleum not only goes into the plastics that compose a toner cartridge, but it also is used to generate the energy required for manufacturing one. For the production of a single new toner cartridge, approximately three quarts of oil must be burned. A remanufactured toner cartridge can be reused up to four times, saving approximately 12 quarts of oil.
Remanufactured Cartridges are Safe (Printer Warranty)
A common myth is that using a remanufactured toner cartridge will void a printer’s warranty. This is simply not the case. In fact, the U.S. has a federal law in place, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which ensures that a printer’s warranty cannot be voided by using aftermarket toner cartridges. Moreover, if a toner cartridge is truly remanufactured, its performance should be indistinguishable from an OEM cartridge.
Not All "Remanufacturers" are Alike
Terms like "remanufactured," "refurbished," and "reconditioned" are often thrown around interchangeably. However, there are distinctions between these terms, and there can be a difference between toner cartridges that are remanufactured by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and those that are remanufactured by a third party. Most remanufacturers provide a high quality cartridge that will meet or exceed OEM standards.
However, some companies that claim to remanufacture cartridges simply drill a hole in the side of the cartridge and refill it with toner without inspecting, cleaning, or replacing any of the parts that may suffer wear and tear. This type of refurbishment, commonly known as "drill and fill," is often done by companies that offer cartridges listed as "seller refurbished", though not all seller refurbished cartridges are necessarily drill and fill operations.
Truly remanufactured toner cartridges (the process we have perfected at Fanelli Boys, Inc.) will have been taken apart, cleaned, inspected, and refilled properly, unlike those that are merely refurbished or reconditioned. Choosing a "manufacturer refurbished" toner cartridge is a good way to filter out all the low-quality items, though many seller-refurbished cartridges can still be of high quality. Most manufacturer refurbished toner cartridges will be remanufactured by the OEM or meet OEM standards.
"Compatible" Toner Cartridges
Many items will be described as "compatible" toner cartridges, and the definition of this term is vague. Compatible toner cartridges can sometimes be manufactured from completely new parts, though not by the OEM, and will often be cheaper than new and remanufactured toner cartridges. Some may reuse the OEM plastic case but fill it with completely new parts and toner. As these cartridges contain mostly new parts, they do not have the environmental benefit of truly remanufactured cartridges, but they may provide substantial savings. Also, as they are mostly new, they theoretically may be of higher quality, though these parts are manufactured by an aftermarket company instead of the OEM. Quality is therefore not guaranteed, especially since these aftermarket cartridges are generally produced in developing countries where the goal is to produce a product as cheaply as possible.
New compatible cartridges also may not fit the printer as well as a remanufactured cartridge, as a remanufactured cartridge is made from an original cartridge that was made and calibrated in the factory by the OEM to fit the printer it was designed for, while a compatible toner cartridge was made by a company with limited resources compared to the OEM. Print Quality Differences
A properly remanufactured toner cartridge will produce print results of equal or better quality than a new toner cartridge. Poor print quality is usually a result seen in refilled cartridges, as a result of old and new toner being mixed together and none of the parts being cleaned. The chances of a refilled cartridge producing poor print quality and possibly leaking are high, while a remanufactured cartridge should perform exactly like a new cartridge.
